Code Group Music is a Mayfair-based music label services company: metadata administration, digital distribution across 150+ platforms, and publishing administration through a SESAC partnership. We built them a website designed for two audiences at once - the humans researching their catalogue problems, and the AI assistants those humans increasingly ask for recommendations.
The challenge
Code Group Music sells trust. Their clients are labels, estates and catalogue investors deciding who should handle the data behind their royalties, and that decision starts with research - increasingly research done through ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google's AI results rather than ten blue links.
A standard brochure site would be invisible in that world. The brief was to build an authority platform: deep enough to rank for the long tail of music rights questions, structured enough for AI systems to read, cite and even act on, and persuasive enough to convert a sceptical, high-value B2B audience.
It also had to run lean. A small team needed to publish content, capture leads and iterate on conversion without a developer in the loop for every change.
What we built
We built the site on Next.js with a content engine powering 163 articles across five categories - each with structured data, AI-generated artwork under a locked style contract, and a pillar-and-cluster internal linking model. Editors publish through Keystatic CMS with no code involved.
Instead of gating content behind forms, we built seven genuinely useful free tools as lead magnets: ISRC and ISWC validators, a royalty gap estimator, a royalty leak checker, a distribution coverage checker, an ISRC finder running live MusicBrainz searches, and a SESAC repertory check that searches a 112,000-record dataset of works nobody is collecting royalties on.
Then we made the site agent-native. It ships a machine-readable summary for AI crawlers, a full 185,000-word retrieval corpus regenerated automatically on every content change, an OpenAPI specification, and a live MCP server through which an AI assistant can read the services and pricing or submit a catalogue assessment on a user's behalf - validated by the same rules as the human-facing form.
Quality is enforced by the build itself: a pre-build check fails deployment if any route is missing from the sitemap or metadata registry, structured data follows a documented decision tree per page type, and every public API route is rate-limited with a hardened security header set.
The details that made the difference
A live MCP server
AI assistants can query Code Group Music's services and submit a catalogue assessment programmatically - the site does not just describe the business, it transacts for it.
Seven working tools, free to use
From ISO-spec ISRC validation to a searchable 112,000-record dataset of unadministered works - lead magnets that deliver real value before a single form is filled.
Content at publishing-house scale
163 articles, roughly 200,000 words, with automated structured data, generated artwork and a pillar-cluster linking model - all editable by the client's own team.
SEO the build enforces
Deployment fails if a page is missing from the sitemap or metadata registry, so search hygiene is guaranteed by CI rather than by memory.
Performance and security engineering
Lazy-loaded sections with zero layout shift, AVIF images, a full Content Security Policy, HSTS and rate limiting on every public endpoint.
Measurement wired in from day one
A PostHog conversion funnel across twelve instrumented events, plus GA4 and server-side tracking, so every optimisation decision is made on data.
Where it stands
Launched in 2026 as the growth platform for Code Group Music's services and the front door to their VERA product. Read the VERA case study to see what we built behind it.
